Mr EWING (RICHMOND, NEW SOUTH WALES) (Vice-President of the Executive Council) - The Minister of Defence made ah inquiry into this matter, a month or two ago, on the first occasion of the bursting of a rifle, and it was confidently hoped that there would not be a recurrence of these accidents. The Department view this matter very seriously.

Mr Watson - Should we not have an ammunition factory of our own ?

Mr EWING - That is a matter which I do not wish to discuss just now. The further inquiry that is to be made will be n.s searching as even the honorable member for Moreton would desire.

Mr Chanter - Will the Minister lay on the table a copy of any report which has been received in connexion with the previous inquiry?

Mr EWING - T think the report was published in the newspapers, but there is no objection to making it a parliamentary paper.
