Senator Colston: To move on the next day of sitting-That Standing Order 64 be suspended for the remainder of the 1985 Budget sittings.

Senator Sanders: To move on the next day of sitting-That leave be given to introduce a Bill for an Act to amend the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Act 1975 to prohibit the carrying out of operations ancillary to the recovery of minerals and drilling or mining generally in the Marine Park without parliamentary approval.

Senator Foreman: To move on the next day of sitting-That the Senate notes-

(a) statements made by the Opposition spokesman on Education, Mr Shack, with respect to the creation of extra tertiary places on a full-fee basis for Australian students;

(b) that such a move would create a two-tiered education system, one being based on merit and the other on wealth; and

(c) that such a move would erode proper academic standards of admittance as those entrants from wealthy backgrounds would be able to buy their way past education quota requirements.

Notices of Motion withdrawn:

Senator Coates, in accordance with notice of intention given on 13 November 1985, withdrew Business of the Senate, Notice of Motion No. 1 standing in his name for the disallowance of the Extradition (Republic of South Africa) Regulations (Amendment).

Statements by Senators: Senator Coates, by leave, made a statement informing the Senate of his resignation as Chairman of the Standing Committee on Regulations and Ordinances and that Senator Cooney had been elected as Chairman.

Senator Lewis, by leave, made a statement relating thereto.
