The Leader of the Opposition in the Senate (Senator Button), by leave, amended General Business, Notice of Motion No. 66 standing in his name.

Foreign Affairs and Defence--Standing Committee--Reference: Senator Button then, pursuant to notice, moved--

(1) That the following matters be referred to the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence:

(a) The human rights and the condition of the people of East Timor; (b) United Nations resolutions and actions with regard to East Timor; and (c) the appropriate policies to be adopted by an Australian Government in relation to matters revealed in the Committee's inquiry.

(2) That, as soon as practicable after this Resolution is agreed to by the Senate, the Committee cause public advertisements to be made advising of the reference of these matters to the Committee and inviting submissions in relation to these matters, such submissions to be lodged with the Committee on or before 30 March 1982.
