Senator REID —I give notice that, on the next day of sitting, I shall move:

  That the Senate—

  (a)notes that for the past 7 years the Australian Science Olympiads have entered teams of outstanding young scholars into the International Physics Olympiad, the International Chemistry Olympiad and, recently, the International Biology Olympiad;

  (b)calls on the government to acknowledge that, at a time when there is great recognition of individuals involved in sporting and leisure activities, recognition of academic values is immensely important if Australia is to remain a leading participant in the Asian area;

  (c)condemns the Government for failing to assure future funding for the participation of Australia's young scientists in the International Science Olympiads.
