Senator CHAMARETTE —I give notice that, on the next day of sitting, I shall move:

  That the Senate—

  (a)notes, with alarm, reports in the West Australian newspaper of 28 June 1994 that the Department of Conservation and Land Management (CALM) has claimed that the logging of large areas of National Estate listed forests in south-west Western Australia is being done with the blessing of the Australian Heritage Commission (AHC);

  (b)condemns the regional assessment process conducted by CALM and the AHC as an irresponsible way of evaluating National Estate forest values; and

  (c)calls on the Government to ensure that any regional assessment processes that are put in place elsewhere do not cause the destruction of the last remaining high conservation value forests of Australia.
