Senator BOLKUS (Minister for Immigration and Ethnic Affairs and Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for Multicultural Affairs) (8.09 p.m.) —What we are concerned about here is that, by imposing the clause that Senator Spindler has moved, we could have a situation where, although the search has been completed, the inquiry has not been completed. By the strict imposition of the suggested clause we could tie up police resources for quite some time when those resources could be utilised to ensure that the total inquiry is successful. Once again, we understand the driving force for Senator Spindler's amendment but we feel the imposition it would place on a legitimate incident is too excessive.
