Senator HAINES (Leader of the Australian Democrats)(11.30) —I would like, on behalf of the Australian Democrats, to echo the thanks that have been expressed tonight to the Clerks, to the attendants, to the Hansard staff, the Parliamentary Library staff, the Parliamentary Refreshment Rooms staff and other staff. They do a sterling job. As we bolt out of this place regularly at half past 10 leaving them here to tidy up after us, I think some of us are too often likely to forget that without them this place could not operate. We make it difficult enough anyway at the best of times, but they do a wonderful job. Having said that, my colleagues have instructed me that I must limit my remarks to the preceding comments and to saying that we wish a merry Christmas to all and to all a good night.

Question resolved in the affirmative.

Senate adjourned at 11.31 p.m. until 2. p.m on Tuesday, 17 February 1987, unless otherwise called together in accordance with the resolution passed earlier this day.
