Senator CHANEY (Leader of the Opposition)(11.38) —I, too, very briefly wish to say that I am very sorry Eddie James has left. I think he was one of the very good blokes in this place. I certainly marvelled at the fact that in all the messing about that goes on in this building, the telephone system always seemed to be under control. I think he is one of those extraordinary men who would always fit into any circumstance, and he certainly fitted in very well here. I believe he will be very much missed, not only for his services but also for the way he went about things. I wish him well.

While I am on my feet, and without wishing to delay the Senate further, I would also wish Anthea Tinney well as she leaves this place. I think she has made a great contribution to the smooth running of the Senate. She has done that in a very pleasant way. Whilst we have had a succession of very fine officers who have done the parliamentary liaison work, I think that Anthea has been outstanding and I wish personally to thank her for the way that she has contributed to the smooth running of this place.
