Senator SCOTT (Leader of the National Party of Australia) —I wish very briefly to endorse the various things that have been said tonight about Senator Martin. I certainly feel that we are losing someone that this Senate cannot afford to lose. We cannot afford to lose the Kathy Martin's of this world . I think it is equally regrettable that she should have chosen to go down into that more primitive area of the House of Representatives. Nevertheless, I am sure she will carry with her the capacities and behaviour that she has learnt in this august chamber. The second time I came into the Senate chamber was as a freshman along with Kathy Martin in 1974 and I have always admired her articulate capacity, her sense of humour and, indeed, her very pleasant appearance. I am sure that that has been augmented significantly since she has had the opportunity to sit between Senator Messner and myself. She has made herself appear not only as beautiful as she is but also a little more by contrast. With those few words I again endorse the things that have been said about Kathy Martin. I am certainly happy that we have all had the opportunity to know her over the years and look forward to her success in whatever she seeks to do in the future.
