(Question No. 1094)

Senator Bolkus asked the Minister representing the Minister for Territories and Local Government, upon notice, on 23 August 1984:

(1) How many word processors, stenographers and typists are employed in the Minister's Department.

(2) As of 1 September 1984, how many such staff have been, or are, off work with repetition strain injury or suspected repetition strain injury.

Senator Gietzelt —The Minister for Territories and Local Government has provided the following answer to the honourable senator's question:

(1) There were 43 word processors, 34 stenographers, 51 typists and 5 typist supervisors employed in my Department as at 1 September 1984.

(2) As at 1 September 1984, 34 keyboard staff had been diagnosed, by their own medical practitioner, as having repetition strain injury and another 2 were suspected of having repetition strain injury; 13 were on sick leave at 1 September 1984.
