Senator DURACK —My question is directed to the Attorney-General as the Minister representing the Special Minister of State. I remind him of an answer he gave to Senator Hamer on 23 August-12 days ago-when he said that he would check to see whether Mr Costigan had written to the Prime Minister or the Special Minister of State expressing his grave concern about the handling of the transition from his inquiry to the National Crime Authority. Has the Attorney checked this matter and is he now in a position to answer the question whether that letter has been written by Mr Costigan? Does he accept that Mr Costigan is unhappy with the handover arrangements and is worried that they have hampered the fight against organised crime? If he has now found the correspondence, will he table it?

Senator GARETH EVANS —I will draw Senator Durack's question to the attention of the Special Minister of State and get a reply as soon as may be.
