Senator GARETH EVANS (Attorney-General)(9.31) —There was some suggestion last night to that effect but I understand it is the Government's desire that the question be put on this Bill and that whatever happened last night should be regarded as no more than a postponement of the consideration of this Bill. It is a matter for argument as to the utility of this enterprise but, in order to clear the record and have it formally recorded in the Journals of the Senate as having been dealt with without any ambiguity or confusion, it is the proposal of the Government that the question be now put.

Question resolved in the negative.
