Senator REID —I give notice that, on the next day of sitting, I shall move:

That the Senate notes-

(a) the recommendation of the Task Force on implementation of A.C.T. self- government that 'the Commonwealth make an early commitment to the principle that national functions in the A.C.T. will continue to be funded by the Commonwealth following self-government'; and

(b) the tabling statement of the Minister for Territories and Local Government on 10 May, 1984, that 'I want to make it clear that the financial arrangements for the A.C.T under self-government would be generally modelled on the Commonwealth-State financial arrangements and principles of fiscal equalisation to ensure that citizens of the A.C.T. are treated fairly and equitably compared with the wider Australian community', fails to make an early commitment to the funding of National Capital functions and the additional provision of Territorial services arising from the National Capital role and calls on the Minister to make that commitment forthwith.
