Senator HARRADINE —by leave-I wish to announce to the Senate that I have today made application to the Australian Electoral Commission to have my name registered as a political party for the purposes of the Commonwealth Electoral Act. Because of the major alterations to future Senate ballot papers wrought by amendments to the Commonwealth Electoral Act, this action is necessary to ensure my re-election and the election of like-minded Independents, particularly from Tasmania.

The registered name is Senator Brian HARRADINE Group and conforms with section 58G of the Commonwealth Electoral Legislation Amendment Act in that it does not comprise more than six words and is not, I assert, 'obscene'. I advise the Senate that I am its registered officer and parliamentary member. Announcements about its deputy leader and parliamentary Whip, of course, will have to wait until after the next election.
