Senator MacGIBBON —I give notice that, on the next day of sitting, I shall move:

That the Senate-

(a) condemns the Hawke Socialist Government for its decision to disband school- based cadet units, which have been in operation for almost 100 years;

(b) recognises the important role played by school-based cadets units, and the benefit gained by over 20,000 Australian school students who are currently members of these units;

(c) condemns the Hawke Government for transferring the cost of the cadet corps from the Army directly to the parents of cadets and thereby denying the enrolment of children from many families; and

(d) recognises that the movement of cadet units to Army reserve depots will mean a greater drain on the already under-funded resources of the Army reserve, will create administrative problems within the reserve and make attendance by many cadets impractical because of travel distances and times for parades.
