Ms Ellis asked the Minister representing the Minister for Family and Community Services, upon notice, on 1 December 1998:

(1) How many (a) permanent and (b) contract positions are to be filled in the 1998-99 Centrelink IT graduate intake.

(2) Will all (a) permanent and (b) contract positions referred to in part (1) be located in (i) Canberra and (ii) the National Support Office in Tuggeranong, ACT.

(3) Will normal Australian Public Service conditions apply to the contract positions; if not, what conditions will apply.

(4) What will be the duration of the contract positions.

Mr Truss (Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry) —The Minister for Family and Community Services has provided the following answer to the honourable member's question:

(1) Centrelink is seeking to fill 50 IT Graduate positions. No distinction has been made as to how many of the positions are to be permanent or contract. This is being done to attract the best possible field of applicants.

(2) All Centrelink IT graduate positions (permanent and contract) that are to be filled in the 1998—1999 intake are located in the ACT, specifically the National Support Office, with staff based at Tuggeranong and Woden.

(3) Normal Government contract terms and conditions will apply to those IT graduates who decide to take a contract with Centrelink. Australian Public Service conditions will only apply to those taking up permanent positions.

(4) The duration of the contract positions offered in the 1998-1999 intake will be for 12 months.
