Mr ANTHONY —My question is directed to the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister will recall that in Question Time yesterday the Minister for Science and Technology attributed certain views on the Australian National Animal Health Laboratory to the Chairman of the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation, Dr Wild, and two of Dr Wild's senior colleagues. Is the Prime Minister able to say, or, if not, can he ascertain, whether Dr Wild has since reaffirmed the views he expressed on this subject in a news release last Friday which cast serious doubts on the statement the Minister made to this Parliament yesterday? Will the Prime Minister step in and resolve this serious conflict between the Minister and one of the Government's most important and highly regarded statutory authorities on an issue which goes to the integrity of the people involved and is immensely important to Australia's rural industries?

Mr HAWKE —Let me preface my answer by saying that I have total confidence in my Minister and his handling of this matter. I am not aware of the statement to which the Leader of the National Party referred. I will take steps to look at it and discuss the matter with the Minister. I will take the matter further, if necessary.
