    16   ELECTION OF DEPUTY SPEAKER AND SECOND DEPUTY SPEAKER

Mr Melham moved—That Mr Slipper be elected a Deputy Speaker of this House, which motion was seconded by Mr Hayes.

Mr Pyne moved—That Mr Scott be elected a Deputy Speaker of this House, which motion was seconded by Mr Hartsuyker.

There being no further proposal—

The House proceeded to ballot; and the ballot being concluded, the Speaker reported the result, as follows:

Mr Slipper.................... 78 votes

Mr Scott....................... 71 votes

Mr Slipper was thereupon declared elected as Deputy Speaker and Mr Scott was declared elected as Second Deputy Speaker.

Ms Gillard (Prime Minister), Mr Abbott (Leader of the Opposition), Mr Truss (Leader of The Nationals) and Mr Albanese (Leader of the House) congratulated Mr Slipper and Mr Scott.
