8          Selection of Bills—Standing Committee—Report no. 6 of 2020

The Chair of the Selection of Bills Committee (Senator Dean Smith) tabled the following report:

SELECTION OF BILLS COMMITTEE

REPORT NO. 6 of 2020

1.     The committee met in private session on Tuesday, 16 June 2020 at 7.24 pm.

2.    The committee recommends that—

(a)                  the Aged Care Legislation Amendment (Financial Transparency) Bill 2020 be referred immediately to the Community Affairs Legislation Committee for inquiry and report by 23 November 2020 ;

(b)                  the Banking Amendment (Deposits) Bill 2020 be referred immediately to the Economics Legislation Committee for inquiry and report by 10 August 2020 ;

(c)                  the provisions of the Biosecurity Amendment (Traveller Declarations and Other Measures) Bill 2020 be referred immediately to the Rural and Regional Affairs and Transport Legislation Committee for inquiry and report by 30 July 2020 ; and

(d)                 the Commonwealth Electoral Amendment (Banning Dirty Donations) Bill 2020 be referred immediately to the Finance and Public Administration Legislation Committee for inquiry and report by the second sitting day of March 2021 .

3.    The committee recommends that the following bills not be referred to committees:

Broadcasting Services Amendment (Regional Commercial Radio and Other Measures) Bill 2020

Commonwealth Electoral Amendment (Ensuring Fair Representation of the Northern Territory) Bill 2020

Education Legislation Amendment (2020 Measures No. 1) Bill 2020

4.    The committee deferred consideration of the following bills to its next meeting:

5.    The committee considered the following bill but was unable to reach agreement:

On the motion of the Assistant Minister for Forestry and Fisheries (Senator Duniam) the following amendment was agreed to:

At the end of the motion, add “and in respect of the Electoral Legislation Amendment (Miscellaneous Measures) Bill 2020, the bill not be referred to a committee.”
