NOTICES

Senator Reid: To move on the next day of sitting--That the Senate--

(a) notes that breast cancer remains the leading cause of death in

women in Australia with 2 600 women dying from breast cancer

each year;

(b) deplores the fact that Australia spends a pitiful amount on

research into the causes and treatment of breast cancer, about

20 cents per woman per year, compared to the United States of

America which spends about $5 per woman per year;

(c) condemns the Minister for Health (Senator Richardson) for

inferring that it is "fashionable' and "sexy' to have breast

cancer; and

(d) calls on the Minister and the Government to prove that they are

committed to research into the causes and treatment of breast

cancer by substantially increasing research funding for breast

cancer in the 1994-95 Budget.

Senator Tierney: To move on the next day of sitting--That the Senate--

(a) condemns the national left wing of the Australian Labor Party

for seeking to increase personal tax rates, increase the company

tax rate and introduce a jobs levy, which is in fact a tax on

jobs;

(b) notes that this has split the Government, with the Minister for

Finance (Mr Beazley) stating that it was not in the interests of

the public or the economy to have further increases in taxation;

(c) calls on the Labor Government to reaffirm its commitment not to

increase taxes; and

(d) condemns the Prime Minister (Mr Keating) for failing on 21

February 1994 to rule out considering tax increases in the

1994-95 Budget.

The Chairman of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and

Trade (Senator Jones): To move on the next day of sitting--That the time

for the presentation of the report of the Standing Committee on Foreign

Affairs, Defence and Trade on sexual harassment in the Australian

Defence Forces be extended to 9 June 1994.
