The following petitions, lodged with the Clerk by the Senators indicated, were received: Senators Archer and Watson, from 14 and 30 petitioners, respectively, praying that the Senate disallow certain regulations and ordinances dealing with publications and video materials, that action be taken to enforce existing laws, that further measures be taken in association with the States and that the censors more appropriately reflect reasonable and responsible community attitudes.

Senators Lajovic, Messner and Scott, from 18, 18 and 162 petitioners, respectively, praying that the Costigan Royal Commission be extended to at least 31 March 1985 and that the Parliament not be dissolved until after it has received and debated the Commissioner's Report.

Senator Hamer, from 151 petitioners praying that the Senate pass a motion in support of the existing Australian flag.

Senators Jack Evans and Macklin, from 981 and 290 petitioners, respectively, praying that the Senate support the Australian Capital Territory Smoking and Tobacco Products Advertisements Prohibition Bill 1983.

Senator Chaney, from 117 petitioners praying that the recurrent grant to tertiary education residential colleges be maintained.

Senator Martin, from 513 petitioners praying that former legislation banning the entry into Australia and sale of hard-core pornographic and violent videos and publications be re-enacted.

Senator Walters, from 834 petitioners praying that the Senate take action to restrict the viewing of certain films, video tapes and printed material.

Senators Collard and Messner, from 331 and 47 petitioners, respectively, praying that the Australian flag be not changed except with the consent of the people in a referendum.

Senator Boswell, from 648 petitioners praying that the decision to allow privileges and travel entitlements to homosexual staff of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation be reversed.

Senator Childs, from 1 petitioner praying that the Senate request the Government to initiate policies to encourage the growth of a research-based pharmaceutical manufacturing industry in Australia.
