The ACTING DEPUTY PRESIDENT ( Senator Marshall ) (16:24): I inform the Senate that at 8.30 am today 11 proposals were received in accordance with standing order 75. The question of which proposal would be submitted to the Senate was determined by lot. As a result, I inform the Senate that the following letter has been received from Senator Urquhart:

Pursuant to standing order 75, I propose that the following matter of public importance be submitted to the Senate for discussion:

Putting local workers first, including cracking down on 457 visas; using Australian grade steel; and protecting local manufacturers.

Is the proposal supported?

More than the number of senators required by the standing orders having risen in their places—

The ACTING DEPUTY PRESIDENT: The proposal is supported. Given that no speakers list has been circulated as per normal practice, and therefore no allocations have been advised to the clerks, all speakers will be allocated 10 minutes.
