Senator CORMANN (Western AustraliaMinister for Finance and Deputy Leader of the Government in the Senate) (18:43): Thank you, Senator Xenophon. I have already indicated that on behalf of the government. The government does support—as I have indicated in principle—what these amendments are trying to achieve. The government will be considering the intent of these amendments. We will look to pursue those amendments in the context of the further reform in this area that we intend to bring forward in the spring session. The justice minister is already working on a further tranche of reforms to strengthen our child sex offender laws in the spring sittings and, subject to the due diligence indicating that there are no unintended consequences from the amendments that have been put forward, it would be our expectation to proceed along those lines.
