Senator HANSON (Queensland) (20:00): I rise to respond—

Senator Moore: We go round the chamber. There's a convention.

Senator Di Natale: There's a convention, Mr Acting Deputy President Fawcett.

Senator HANSON: Actually, my understanding is first on their feet.

The ACTING DEPUTY PRESIDENT ( Senator Fawcett ): Order! I don't have a list in front of me. There is no list. Senator Hanson was the first on her feet.

Senator Di Natale: Mr Acting Deputy President, there's a convention. We've been doing this for many, many years. I ask you to consult with the Clerk and whoever you need to consult, but we've never had a situation in this chamber where the privilege hasn't been afforded to a party that represents the next biggest majority to the Labor and Liberal parties.

The ACTING DEPUTY PRESIDENT: Senator Di Natale, my attention has just been drawn to the state of the House.

(Quorum formed).

Senator Moore: Mr Acting Deputy President, we are just looking at the protocol for this evening. Normally, at this stage, the Leader of the Opposition in the Senate tables the Leader of the Opposition's statement. As, we are all aware, the Leader of the Opposition in the other place is still on his feet. We are unable to table that statement until he finishes his speech. I wanted to make clear that is what is happening. There is no protocol, I believe, that needs to say that that has to happen first. That's my understanding. For the understanding of everyone in the chamber, that's why we were looking to delay. At this stage, that speech is not yet completed. As soon as it's finished, I promise I will make sure that the leader is here to table it for us.

The ACTING DEPUTY PRESIDENT: In that case, following the protocols of the House, I will call Senator Di Natale.
