Senator CROWLEY (Minister for Family Services) (12.39 p.m.) —My advice is that the difficulties with these amendments as drafted were certainly brought to the attention of opposition senators. That is the advice that I am given, but I do not wish to open things up. If that is not the understanding that honourable senators have, there has been a failure of communication. I am advised that honourable senators were told of the difficulties with the amendments as drafted. It raises the curly point of who drafts amendments. In the end, though, we do not need to run through all of those point scoring exercises at this time. I think what is proposed will provide a reasonable outcome, given the situation, so we will support the motion.
