Senator FAULKNER (Manager of Government Business in the Senate) (9.52 a.m.) —in reply—Some of the concerns raised by Senator Harradine have been answered and responded to by Senator Colston. Senator Harradine made a reasonable point. Clearly we can approach this by ensuring that items of interest are staggered if Estimates Committee F meets at the same time as committees A, B and C. I will ask estimates committee chairs to be sensitive to that. I think we can also coordinate that with the secretaries of those estimates committees so that any conflicting times of matters before estimates committees are managed to give Senator Harradine and all other senators an opportunity to make a contribution before estimates committees.

It is fair to say that this happens quite a deal anyway when we have three estimates committees that regularly meet at the same time. It often requires a sensible approach to working through the committees' timetables. The government will ensure, by approaching the chairs of these four estimates committees and committee secretaries, that these matters are approached sensitively.

  Question resolved in the affirmative.
