Senator Kemp asked the Minister representing the Prime Minister, upon notice, on 24 September 1991:

  (1) For the period from 1 July 1990 to the current date, has any of the individuals listed below been appointed to or served on the governing bodies of any statutory authority, non-statutory body or company listed as being within your portfolio in the List of Commonwealth Bodies produced by the Senate Standing Committee on Finance and Public Administration in June 1991, or of tribunals, or of any other statutory authority, non-statutory body or company or committee within the portfolio: (a) Mr Martin Ferguson; (b) Mr Bill Kelty; (c) Mr Bill Mansfield; (d) Ms Jenny George; (e) Mr Iain Ross; or (f) Mr Laurie Carmichael.

  (2) For each appointment, what has been: (a) the annual rate of remuneration in respect of the appointment (excluding amounts covered in (c) and (d) below); (b) the total remuneration in respect of the appointment from the date of the appointment (excluding amounts covered in (c) and (d) below); (c) the total of travel and accommodation expenses paid in respect of or reimbursed to the appointee; and (d) the nature of any other payments or obligations to, or incurred on behalf of, the appointee.


Senator Button —The Prime Minister has provided the following answer to the honourable senator's question in respect of the Prime Minister and Cabinet portfolio:

  Office of the Chief Scientist

  (1) Mr Laurie Carmichael is a member of the Prime Minister's Science Council.

  (2) (a) and (b) No remuneration is paid to members of the Prime Minister's Science Council.

  (c) No travel expenses have been paid in respect of or reimbursed to Mr Carmichael.

  (d) No other payments or obligations have been made to, or incurred on behalf of, Mr Carmichael.

  Office of the Economic Planning Advisory Council

  (1) Within the period 1 July 1990 to the present date, Messrs Martin Ferguson, Bill Kelty and Laurie Carmichael are or have been members of the Economic Planning Advisory Council. Messrs Bill Mansfield and Iain Ross have deputised on occasions but have never been members of the Council.

  (2) (a) and (b) No remuneration is paid to members of the Economic Planning Advisory Council.

  (c) Travel and accommodation expenses can be claimed by Council members to attend meetings. Payments are made either to the member, to his or her organisation, or to an airline or car hire agency.

  During the period 1 July 1990 to the current date, the following amounts were paid to or on behalf of the above mentioned persons:

  (2) (a) and (b) No remuneration is paid to members of the APS Management Advisory Board.

  (c) The total cost of travel expenses for Mr Mansfield have been as follows:
