Senator WALTERS
—Mr Deputy President, I claim that the Minister for Social Security (Senator Grimes) has again misrepresented me and I seek leave to make a personal explanation.
Leave granted.
The DEPUTY PRESIDENT
—Senator Walters, before you speak I inform you that I do not want this to continue into an indefinite debate. It will have to be strictly on the narrow issues of misrepresentation.
Senator WALTERS
—Mr Deputy President, I understand that but I will not allow Senator Grimes to say in here that he arranged for someone to ring my office, and that the advice coming out of my office was that pensioners should sell up their assets. That is completely untrue. No one has ever rung my office and been given that advice by either my staff or me. I will guarantee the Senate that. I ask Senator Grimes to give the name of the person whom he asked to ring my office and who got that information so that we may have the matter cleaned up as to who is telling the truth, Senator Grimes or me. I will not have my integrity or the integrity of my staff besmirched by Senator Grimes who in this place continually attempts to besmirch the integrity of honourable senators on this side.
