Senator HARRADINE(4.24)
— The honourable senator is addressing something altogether different. The Select Committee made no recommendations at all which would enable the Electoral Commission to give information to the public about the nature of referenda proposals. We are talking about the nature of referendum proposals. We are not talking about how electors should be provided with information by the electoral offices on what they should do in respect of referendum proposals, where they should vote, and so on. We are talking about a wholly different thing, which goes to the nature of referendum proposals which are essentially political in character. That was my point all along; because they are essentially political in character we are opening the way for people to cry foul against the Electoral Commission and thus undermining its integrity.
