Senator Coleman asked the Minister for Resources and Energy, upon notice, on 8 March 1984:

What accidents or unplanned incidents have been reported at the Lucas Heights nuclear reactor.

Senator Walsh —The answer to the honourable senator's question is as follows:

Since the Australian Atomic Energy Commission's reactors HIFAR and MOATA commenced operation in 1958 and 1961 respectively there have been no accidents or incidents, reported or otherwise, involving the reactors which have threatened public safety or caused the radiation exposure of any staff member beyond internationally accepted annual occupational limits.
