myHealth Record

(Question No. 1553)

Ms King asked the Minister for Health, in writing, on 17 September 2015:

In respect of myHealth Record, (a) What funds have been allocated for 2018-19? (b) When will the opt-out trials commence and at what sites? (c) What date has the Government set for the finalisation of the opt-out trials?

Ms Ley: The answer to the honourable member's question is as follows:

(a) The Government has allocated $5.3 million for the period 2018-19. This funding is for new eHealth Governance and to conduct trials of participation arrangements including 'opt-out'. Funding for 2018-19 period is to be considered in context of the outcomes of the opt-out and opt-in trials to be conducted in 2016.

(b) The participation trials are currently planned to commence in April 2016. On 28 October I announced Northern Queensland and the Nepean Blue Mountains area in New South Wales as the opt-out trial locations. Outside of the opt-out trials, the My Health Record system will continue to operate on an opt-in basis.

(c) It is expected that the opt-out trials will not formally conclude at a specified date but the evaluation period for the trials will conclude at the end of October 2016.

The evaluation of the opt-out trials will inform Government decisions on whether to extend opt-out arrangements nationally and any related timing. Such decisions will be made in consultation with states and territories.
