Dr Southcott asked the Minister for Employment Participation, in writing, on 1December 2008:

What is the: (a) expected number of commencements for the Work Experience Placement program (WEP) in the 2008-09 financial year; and (b) forecast number of commencements for the Work Experience Program in the (i) 2009-10, (ii) 2010-11, and (iii) 2011-12 financial years.

Mr Brendan O’Connor (Minister for Employment Participation) —The answer to the honourable member’s question is as follows:

(a)   The estimated utilisation for the WEP for the 2008-09 financial year is 1500 as published in the Portfolio Budget Statements 2008-09 on page 120.

(b)   The forecast number of commencements for the Work Experience Program in the (i) 2009-10, (ii) 2010-11, and (iii) 2011-12 financial years cannot be provided as the WEP program will not continue as a distinct program under the new employment system but will continue as one of a range of Work Experience activities that job seekers may undertake.
