Mr Cameron Thompson asked the Minister for Health and Ageing, upon notice, on 23 June 2004:

Will he explain why his letter dated 26 May 2004 titled `Strengthening Medicare' delivered to Australian households was not printed on recycled paper and on both sides of one sheet

Mr Abbott (Minister for Health and Ageing) —The answer to the honourable member's question is as follows:

Where possible the Government supports the use of recycled paper. However, there are occasions when printing on recycled paper is not possible due to a lack of supply at the time it is required. It should be noted that all paper used in the Medicare all household mail-out is recyclable. The department produced the Prime Minister's letter on separate pages in accordance with normal practice for the handling of the Prime Minister's correspondence.
