Mr SLIPPER (Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Finance and Administration) (4:25 PM) —I ask leave of the House to move a motion to rescind the reference of work to the Joint Standing Committee on Public Works relating to the proposed refurbishment of ANZAC Park East and ANZAC Park West buildings and the fit-out of the ANZAC Park West building, Parkes, ACT, and by reason of the urgent nature of the work to move that the work be carried out without having been referred to the committee.

Mr Brendan O'Connor —On indulgence, Mr Deputy Speaker, I seek leave to make some comments on this matter.

Mr Slipper —I rise on a point of order, Mr Deputy Speaker—

The DEPUTY SPEAKER (Hon. I.R. Causley)—I can grant indulgence.

Mr Slipper —May I suggest that it would be appropriate—

The DEPUTY SPEAKER —No, I can grant indulgence, Parliamentary Secretary.

Mr Slipper —if leave is granted, for me to move the motion and then the member for Burke can speak.

The DEPUTY SPEAKER —The parliamentary secretary seeks leave to move his motion. The honourable member for Burke seeks indulgence.
