Mr Jenkins asked the Minister for Trade, upon notice, on 14 March 2002:

What sums were provided to companies in Victoria for export assistance in (a) 1998-99, (b) 1999-2000, and (c) 2000-2001 and what was the (i) expenditure on, and (ii) purpose of, each grant.

Mr Vaile (Minister for Trade) —The answer to the honourable member's question is as follows:

(1) (a) 1998-1999: $36m*

(b) 1999-2000: $34.4m*

(c) 2000-2001: $32.9m*

(i) expenditure is for payment of Export Market Development Grants for the partial reimbursement of eligible export promotion incurred by recipients (under the EMDG Act 1997 as amended); and

(ii) purpose of each grant is to encourage small to medium sized enterprises to develop export markets.
