(14) Schedule 1, page 26 (line 18), omit "Petroleum Act", substitute "Petroleum (Submerged Lands) Act 1967 (Commonwealth)".

The proposed government amendments to the bill as foreshadowed remove minor discrepancies in the wording used in the bill compared with the state bills and acts. The minor discrepancies emerged between the Commonwealth and the states because of different drafting protocols.

Three government amendments do not involve any change to the meaning of the provisions. The first item changes `territory' in subclause 2(3) in schedule 1 to `area'. This ensures that `area' is used throughout the bill, as in the state and Northern Territory acts and bills. The second item changes `proceedings on the charge' in subclause 7(4) of schedule 1 to `the proceedings'. Again, this ensures uniformity across the Commonwealth, state and territory bills and acts. The third item changes `the Petroleum Act' whenever it appears in both clause 13 and 14 to `the Petroleum (Submerged Lands) Act 1967' so that the full name of the act will appear throughout the bill. This is consistent with the approach adopted by the states and the Northern Territory. I commend the government amendments to the chamber.
