Mr REITH (Workplace Relations and Small Business) (12:34 PM) —by leave—I move:

(1) That so much of the standing orders be suspended as would prevent the introduction and passage through all stages without delay of the following bills:

Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Bill 1998

Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety (Licence Charges) Bill 1998

Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety (Consequential Amendments) Bill 1998

States Grants (Primary and Secondary Education Assistance) Amendment Bill 1998

Higher Education Funding Amendment Bill 1998

Film Licensed Investment Company Bill 1998

Taxation Laws Amendment (Film Licensed Investment Company) Bill 1998

Child Support Legislation Amendment Bill 1998

States Grants (General Purposes) Amendment Bill 1998

(2) That each of the bills stand referred to the Main Committee following the adjournment of debate on the motion for the second reading.

This is a procedural motion to facilitate the passage of this legislation. This legislation has been before the chamber previously but, with the election and the election of new members, it is appropriate and proper that this legislation again come before the House. It does so by agreement with the opposition. These matters will be dealt with in the Main Committee in the balance of today, with the intention that these matters be referred back to the House for final passage by the conclu sion of today's business. This is a sensible and efficient means of dealing with the business of the House. I do record my appreciation of the cooperation of the opposition in achieving this sensible outcome.
