To the Speaker and the Members of the House of Representatives in the Parliament assembled. The petition of certain citizens respectfully showeth that:

The Hawke Labor Government's ID Card proposal is the most far reaching and intrusive piece of Australian legislation yet introduced, and that on all the evidence available, it will not tackle in the most cost-efficient and effective manner tax and social security fraud.

Your petitioners humbly pray that the House of Representatives, in Parliament assembled, urge the Government to:

Reject Labor's ID Card proposal to prevent a gross waste of taxpayer's money and a significant infringement of civil liberties.

And your petitioners as in duty bound will ever pray.
