Mr PETER MORRIS (Minister for Transport and Minister for Aviation)(10.39)
—I move:
That the Bill be now read a second time.
The purpose of the Sugar Cane Levy Collection Bill is to provide the machinery necessary for collecting the levy imposed by the Sugar Cane Levy Bill 1987. This Bill should be read as one with the Sugar Cane Levy Bill 1987, and is to come into operation on the same day that the levy Bill becomes operative.
The Bill specifies the liability of growers and millers under the scheme, outlines penalties for non-compliance and provides appropriate powers of enforcement. It is intended that levy collections will commence on 1 June 1987. I commend the Bill to honourable members and I have presented the explanatory memorandum to the Bill.
Debate (on motion by Mr Cadman) adjourned.
