(Question No. 4776)

Mr Braithwaite asked the Minister for Trade, upon notice, on 16 October 1986:

(1) Why was the candidate interviewed in Frankfurt for the position of Senior Trade Commissioner, Milan, not appointed following the withdrawal of Dr Klein's application.

(2) When and for what reason was it decided not to appoint the candidate interviewed in Frankfurt.

Mr Dawkins —The answer to the honourable member's question is as follows:

(1) and (2) I am advised by the Australian Trade Commission that the decision not to proceed with an appointment to Milan stemmed from a decision to review, as part of an exercise covering Western Europe, the whole of the Commission's operations in Italy.
