Question No. 266

Mr Lloyd asked the Minister for Communications, upon notice, on 26 May 1983:

(1) Is the report of the Administrative Review Council regarding appeals against decisions by the Australian Broadcasting Tribunal to be implemented; if so, when.

(2) If the report is to be implemented will there be a right of appeal to the Administrative Appeals Tribunal; if not, why not.

Mr Duffy —The answer to the honourable member's question is as follows:

(1) and (2) The Report of the Administrative Review Council on the review of decisions under the Broadcasting and Television Act was presented to the then Attorney-General in the previous Government on 11 June 1982.

The Report is under consideration by the Government and accordingly no decision has been taken regarding right of appeal to the Administrative Appeals Tribunal against decisions of the Australian Broadcasting Tribunal.
