Mr PEACOCK —My question is addressed to the Prime Minister. I refer to the documents tabled on 13 October by the honourable member for O'Connor relating to the dealings of Coomel Pty Ltd and the Minister for Finance. Has the Prime Minister discussed these documents with the Minister for Finance? Has the Prime Minister confirmed that the documents are authentic? Will the documents be submitted to the Commissioner of Taxation to see whether a liability has been incurred under Part IV of the taxation Act? Finally, does the Prime Minister approve of the tax minimisation scheme outlined in those documents?

Mr HAWKE —I have discussed the matter of the documents tabled on 13 October to which the Leader of the Opposition referred. I understand that at the end of Question Time today my colleague and friend the Minister for Finance will be making a full statement to the House which will cover the matters contained in the question asked by the Leader of the Opposition. I believe from the conversation I have already had with the Minister that at the end of that statement I will be able to express my full satisfaction with the position of the Minister. I suggest to the Leader of the Opposition that it is appropriate that he wait until that statement is made.
