Question No. 349

Mr Ronald Edwards asked the Minister for Primary Industry, upon notice, on 23 August 1983:

Is the Minister able to provide an analysis of claims for compensation resulting from repetitive strain injury in the Minister's Department for each of the years 1978 to 1983.

Mr Kerin —The answer to the honourable member's question is as follows:

(a) Thirty-eight claims for compensation resulting from repetitive strain injury have been received in the Department of Primary Industry and associated statutory authorities in the period 1978 to 1983.

(b) Of these claims, 26 have been accepted and 12 are outstanding.

(c) Sixteen of the claims were made by females and 22 by males.

(d) Of the claims, 17 resulted from general meat inspection duties, 6 from typing duties, 2 from word processing duties, 3 from computer terminal data entry duties, 5 from general laboratory duties, 2 from normal clerical duties, 2 from heavy lifting and 1 from driving a four-wheeled drive vehicle.
