Question No. 195

Mr McVeigh asked the Minister for Employment and Industrial Relations, upon notice, on 19 May 1983:

Is the Australian Conciliation and Arbitration Commission the highest industrial court in the land; if so, should decisions of the Commission be upheld by all parties.

Mr Willis —The answer to the honourable member's question is as follows:

The Australian Conciliation and Arbitration Commission is not an industrial court. The Commission is established under the Conciliation and Arbitration Act 1904. Awards of the Commission are binding on the parties.
