Industries: small crops, prawn and fish farms, sugar growing and refining, beef cattle, dairying, coal mining, abattoirs and tourism.

State electorates: Dawson includes the Queensland Legislative Assembly electorates of Mackay and Whitsunday, and parts of Burdekin and Mirani.
