Basic Search

Basic Search screen. Blue header with menu will appear on every ParlInfo Search page, as will the footer.

Basic Search is the default screen for public users but may be used by all users. The ParlInfo Search Tabs that appear on every page are: Basic Search, Advanced Search/Browse, Guided Search, My List, My Profile and Help. Public users may access the Saved Searches, Search History and Alerts tabs by going through a registration process.

Basic Search searches all Parliamentary collections. The simplest way to search is to enter one or more search terms (your search query) in the main search box. Default Search Behaviour describes default searching.

jones smith 2007

Searches entered in the main search box are text searches, that is, they search both descriptive information and the content of documents in the Parliamentary collections. These collections are: House of Representatives, Senate, Committees, Bills and Legislation, Media, Library, Constitution, Publications, and the Australian Parliament website. (For more details of the subcollections in these collections, click on the Advanced Search/Browse tab.) The Search button activates your search. Clicking Enter after the search terms are entered also activates your search. The Clear button clears your search terms. Search terms are not case sensitive - you may use upper or lower case characters without affecting results.
