URGENCY MOTION—FAMILY AND COMMUNITY SERVICES—ABC LEARNING—CHILD CARE

The President informed the Senate that he had received a letter from e Senator Hanson-Young advising that today she intended to move—That, in the opinion of the Senate, the following is a matter of urgency:

 The collapse of ABC Learning and its effect on child care across Australia, which requires an urgent response from the Government including an emergency summit of the key child care providers from around the country, to ensure services to parents and children are available beyond the end of 2008.

The proposal was supported by four senators.

Senator Hanson-Young moved the motion.

Debate ensued.

Question put and passed.
