The DEPUTY PRESIDENT —The President has received a letter from Senator Abetz proposing that a definite matter of public importance be submitted to the Senate for discussion, namely:

The resilience of the Australian economy which is a direct result of the responsible economic management of the former Coalition Government; and that it is only as a result of the economic leadership and management provided by the Coalition Government that Labor has been able to implement the policy measures announced on 14 October 2008.

I call upon those senators who approve of the proposed discussion to rise in their places.
