New think tank to drive agricultural policy debate -

A new farm policy 'think tank' has been launched in Sydney, with the aim of driving the policy debate in agriculture.

The Australian Farm Institute has initial seed funding from the NSW Farmers Association, but will be looking for private investment.

Chairman John Ralph says his organisation aims to set the policy for agriculture, rather than reacting.

"We want to make sure that this is independent, but what we want to get are members coming in, from individuals, from companies etc; but all on the basis that the research will be conducted - independent research - that can then be put out there for policy development that's in the interest of not only the farming community, but the community of Australia generally."
