DHA CELEBRATES 20 YEARS OF HOUSING ADF MEMBERS

The Hon. Warren Snowdon MP, Minister for Defence Science and Personnel, today congratulated Defence Housing Australia (DHA) on a major milestone.

This year DHA celebrates two decades of providing high-quality housing and housing services to Australian Defence Force members and their families

“During those 20 years, DHA has evolved into a professional and commercial Government Business Enterprise (GBE), while preserving and enhancing a high quality of service to ADF members,” Mr Snowdon said.

“DHA’s main role is to supply housing and related services to ADF members and their families in support of Defence operational, recruitment and retention goals.

“DHA aims to ensure that ADF members, particularly those deployed, are not distracted in the performance of their mission by concerns about the housing and relocation of their families.”

By providing the best service possible, DHA works to ensure housing is not a cause of members discharging from the Services.

“Indeed, housing is one of the headlines in attracting new recruits to the ADF, and certainly in retaining them once recruited,” Mr Snowdon said.

Mr Snowdon applauded the improvements that DHA has made to housing for ADF members in the past 20 years.

“Looking back at where DHA has come from, it has made significant improvements to the standard of housing and the services available to Defence families.

“Our servicemen and women are owed nothing less, that is why DHA has committed to improving its support over the last 20 years.

“And I look forward to working with them in the years ahead as we continue to develop these vital services.”

DHA was established in 1988, at a time when Defence housing was of a lower standard. It has been working hard to provide comfortable living and a complete housing solution for families around Australia. Today DHA manages 17,500 properties Australia wide and performs more than 24,500 relocations each year.
